Survey Reveals US & UK Businesses Continue to Face Significant Backup and Disaster Recovery Challenges
10 Maio 2010 - 10:00AM
Business Wire
A survey of United States and United Kingdom IT administrators
revealed that their most significant backup challenges are reducing
recovery time, the ability to recover data to any point in time,
and reducing the cost of their backup and recovery solutions.
Further, IT administrators, many of whom distrust their current
solutions, cite a need for improved recovery reliability. These
challenges significantly affect end user productivity as well as a
company’s bottom line.
Key Findings:
The survey, conducted by Double-Take® Software (NASDAQ: DBTK),
revealed that IT administrators face major backup and recovery
challenges on a daily basis, including:
- Reducing the time it takes to
recover (94%)
- Recovering to any point in time
(94%)
- Reducing the cost of backup
solutions (95%)
- Performing recovery testing
(93%)
- Improving the reliability of
their backup solutions (90%)
- Reducing the risk of data loss
(91%)
In addition, the survey found that nearly 50 percent of IT
administrators still rely on tape backup, which has been shown to
provide significantly less recoverability than disk-to-disk or
other data protection methods.
Analysis:
IT administrators aim to provide top-notch support to their
businesses and want peace of mind in knowing they have reliable
protection. These survey results reveal that they find great value
in recovery solutions that reliably protect their companies’ data
and systems, simplify the recovery process, and offer robust
functionality. How a company chooses to protect its data is a key
decision, especially since the cost of recovering critical systems
and information is not typically an expense covered in IT
budgets.
“Today, a company’s IT infrastructure is truly its backbone.
Even minimal downtime or data loss can result in devastating
effects,” says Dean Goodermote, CEO of Double-Take Software. “IT
administrators realize the value that disk-based recovery solutions
offer. These solutions are capable of protecting data more
frequently than once per day; they are also able to
recover faster and with greater flexibility to physical or
virtual environments. These types of solutions reflect the changing
composition of the data center and are absolutely essential for
businesses.”
