Wake Forest University Selects Datastream 7i to Improve Facilities Management Deployment a Critical Element of Program Link, the University's Campus-Wide Upgrade of Administrative Computing Systems GREENVILLE, S.C., April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:DSTME) today announced that Wake Forest University, a private institution consistently ranked among the nation's top 30 universities, has selected the Datastream 7i(TM) Asset Performance Management solution for its facilities management operations. Wake Forest will use Datastream 7i to improve operations across its Reynolda Campus and in the management of the university's real estate properties. The implementation of Datastream 7i is part of Wake Forest's Program Link, a multi-year, campus-wide initiative to upgrade and replace administrative computing systems. As part of Program Link, Wake Forest is committed to using technology to its fullest potential while reducing administrative technology costs and maintaining the university's leadership in high-tech education. With Datastream 7i, Wake Forest will incorporate Asset Performance Management into every aspect of facilities management, including custodial matters, landscaping, general maintenance, construction, central heating, key management and campus safety. Datastream 7i will help Wake Forest reduce maintenance costs and ensure optimal condition of all assets such as buildings, machinery, equipment and vehicles. A customer since 1999, Wake Forest upgraded to Datastream 7i because it is a Web-based solution with enhanced purchasing and reporting functionality. It also includes critical analytic and mobile capabilities that provide managers with at-a-glance views of equipment trends and usage so they can better track expenditures and improve efficiencies. The product's mobile capabilities will enable maintenance technicians to easily retrieve work orders and submit requests for equipment parts directly from their mobile devices without having to go to the warehouse or complete cumbersome paperwork. "For several years, Datastream technology has been the foundation for computerized tracking of our facilities management operations," said Mary Cranfill, assistant director of Wake Forest facilities management and the project manager for Datastream 7i within Program Link. "Datastream 7i is a natural upgrade for us. As we grow and our technology systems evolve, a Web- designed solution with analytics and mobile capabilities will drive faster productivity improvements and cost savings." Datastream's software has enabled the university to use budgeted money more efficiently to accomplish nearly $1 million in "beautifying" projects and deferred maintenance that otherwise would not have been possible or would have required additional funding. Several of these projects helped Wake Forest win an award from the Professional Grounds Management Association, which identified the university as having one of the five most beautiful campuses in America. One of the most important benefits of using Datastream 7i is that it allows the university to become more pro-active and cost-effective about maintenance as reduced operational budgets and stricter compliance regulations require them to do more with fewer resources. "As buildings age and safety regulations require changes, we are increasingly pressured to find the resources to address them," said Cranfill. "Since we don't receive any government funding for our facilities operations and maintenance, the burden is on us to optimize every resource. Datastream 7i will not only help us improve operations under these increasing demands, it will also create additional sources of revenue for the university in its management of its leased real estate properties." Wake Forest's leased real estate properties include: * The University Corporate Center (UCC): One of the premier office buildings in the Winston-Salem Triad area, the structure consists of five floors and a concourse level totaling approximately 525,000 square feet. * Reynolda Village: A unique shopping and office complex created from the R.J. Reynolds Estate buildings. * Reynolda Business Center: A prime office building with approximately 203,000 square feet. "Wake Forest is an excellent example of a large-scale, geographically- distributed organization that is maximizing its Asset Performance Management system," said Larry Blackwell, CEO of Datastream. "The university is using Datastream 7i to simplify and standardize its facilities management processes and improve operations. This ultimately translates into a healthier, safer, more efficient environment for students, faculty and staff." About Wake Forest University Located since 1956 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Wake Forest was founded in 1834 in the eastern North Carolina town of Wake Forest. Since launching its nationally recognized technology initiative in the 1990s, Wake Forest has been a leader in the use of technology in education. A new high-speed wireless and wired network installed on campus during the summer of 2004 provides more than 680 wireless access points across campus and replaces Wake Forest's original wireless network installed in 2000. The new network places Wake Forest among a small group of colleges and universities that offer high-speed wireless Internet access in nearly every campus building. Around-the-clock support is available from student technology advisers. Wake Forest is distinguished by small classes, expansive resources, outstanding academic quality and a commitment to liberal arts education. About Datastream Systems, Inc. Datastream Systems, Inc.
