Latest Product Release Bolsters Datastream's Leadership Position in Asset Performance Management Linear Asset Management and Geographic Information System Enhancements Strengthen Datastream's Position in Public Sector, Oil & Gas and Transportation Markets GREENVILLE, S.C., June 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:DSTME) today announced that it has released a new version of its flagship Asset Performance Management solution, Datastream 7i(TM), that enables public sector, utility, oil & gas, transportation and other organizations to improve efficiency and reduce costs associated with maintaining geographically distributed capital assets. The latest version of Datastream 7i builds on its extensive integration with ESRI's ArcGIS suite of products with enhanced linear asset-management capabilities and improved data management. Customers with extensive linear assets, including public works and water/wastewater treatment departments, oil & gas companies, transportation agencies, public utilities and communication service providers can now more effectively manage and optimize all their assets including pipes, roads, rails and utility lines as well as the fixed assets that occupy those linear networks. Additionally, this release includes enhancements supporting repairable spares, invoicing and advanced reporting, as well as improved functionality to facilitate materials management, purchasing, data collection, fleet management and organization-to-organization data transfer. "With the new version of Datastream 7i, we can identify specific GIS attributes that should be updated based on changes to an associated asset and vice versa," said Steve Sherman, GIS manager for the City of Greensboro. "For example, if the condition of an asset, such as a storm water catch basin changes due to work performed through a Datastream 7i work order, the corresponding condition rating for that catch basin will automatically be updated in our GIS application. This creates a dynamic environment that greatly increases the accuracy and accessibility of information to users of both systems." The new linear-asset capability in Datastream 7i enables users to segment assets both for specifying maintenance work orders and for performing cost analysis. For example, a user can specify that a specific segment of pipeline requires maintenance and then pull up costing information on that segment of pipeline, either for financial reporting purposes or for comparing costs between like segments to identify problem areas. In addition, users can seamlessly access GIS data from Datastream 7i, or access asset data from within ESRI's ARC GIS suite, to gain comprehensive information on asset location, history and characteristics. The integration enables far more efficient asset-management processes because users locate assets on a map, click on them to schedule maintenance, and even map out the most-efficient route workers should take to perform the day's maintenance activities. "This release continues to add depth to our industry specific offerings and our analytical capabilities. Managing linear assets has always been a challenge because they often span large geographic areas. Locating and analyzing specific asset components along a road, pipeline, or utility network is typically an inexact science," said Datastream CEO Larry Blackwell. "This has been particularly challenging to our public-sector and oil and gas customers who often must manage thousands of miles of linear assets. The new capabilities in Datastream 7i radically simplify linear asset management so customers can better utilize their people and materials while improving overall linear asset performance."
