Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS): -- Simplifies RF Design and Reduces Critical Board Space Through Higher Levels of Front-End Integration; Proprietary Technologies Extend Talk Time for Multimedia Platforms Skyworks Solutions, Inc.(NASDAQ:SWKS), a global leader in analog, mixed signal and digital semiconductors for mobile applications, today launched its family of Intera(TM) front-end modules (FEMs) for wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) applications with support for High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). WCDMA is a 3G wireless technology that allows users to send and receive mobile voice, data, image and video communications at speeds up to 2 Mbps over a broad range of frequencies. HSDPA allows high speed downlink with data transmission up to 10 Mbps. By integrating the company's innovative Load Insensitive Power Amplifier (LIPA(TM)), a duplexer, power detector and filters into a single 5mm x 8mm package, Skyworks' Intera(TM) FEMs allow handset designers to simplify RF design and shrink required board space by approximately 50 percent when compared to alternative discrete approaches. "As handset OEMs around the world move towards WCDMA platforms, where power efficiency, size and multimode operation become increasingly important, Skyworks' Intera(TM) front-end modules answer the call by enabling exceptional talk times in an ultra compact footprint," said Brian M. Daly, Skyworks' Director of Marketing for RF Solutions. "Our simplified architecture not only helps reduce design cycle times, but also facilitates implementation with virtually any WCDMA baseband." Intera(TM) FEMs leverage Skyworks' highly innovative LIPA(TM) technology, which today support the majority of tier one handset OEMs, as well as a growing list of ODMs and tier two and three suppliers. These solutions are the latest additions to Skyworks' highly successful GSM/GPRS/EDGE front-end module portfolio that today are at the heart of nearly 75 million handsets following their debut just two years ago. About Intera(TM) FEMs The SKY77413 and SKY77414 are fully matched 22-pin surface mount modules that meet the spectral requirements of WCDMA up to 24.8 and 23.9 decibels (dBm) output powers, respectively. Incorporating an indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) power amplifier, Intera(TM) FEMs contain proprietary circuitry to optimize power detector performance. Different control pins are available to enhance the performance of the FEMs at different power levels. By optimizing the efficiency of the InGaP HBT PA monolithic microwave integrate circuit (MMIC) and reducing the RF loss between the integrated components, the SKY77413 FEM achieves current as low as 450 magnetic amplifier (mA), and the SKY77414 FEM achieves current as low as 470 mA at maximum output power (24.8 dBm for SKY77413 and 23.9 dBm for SKY77414), improving the talk time of a WCDMA platform. A digital-enable pin is included to allow for easier implementation with existing WCDMA architectures. Pricing and Availability The SKY77413 (for frequencies that range between 824-849 MHz) and the SKY77414 (for frequencies that range between 1850-1910 MHz) are immediately available for sampling and priced at $4.50 each in quantities of 10,000.
