Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), an industry leader in radio
solutions and precision analog semiconductors, today unveiled
Helios(TM) II, its next-generation EDGE radio. This highly
integrated solution reduces the radio frequency (RF) board space by
half when compared to previous Helios(TM) designs, enabling the
inclusion of advanced multimedia features such as MP3 players,
digital cameras, Web browsing, multimedia messaging services (MMSs)
and video processing. Helios(TM) II, which builds upon Skyworks'
Helios(TM) Mini - the company's dual-chip radio solution,
eliminates the need for additional factory calibration, offering
handset OEMs simplified testing processes and ease with high-volume
manufacturing. To date, three of the world's top five handset OEMs
have adopted Skyworks' Helios(TM)-based architectures. "We are
pleased to offer our customers yet another solution that delivers
superior RF performance and an unprecedented level of radio
integration," said Kevin D. Barber, senior vice president and
general manager of Mobile Platforms for Skyworks. "With its compact
design and robust performance even under extreme conditions,
Helios(TM) II meets the call for the demanding requirements of
next-generation EDGE handsets." About Helios(TM) II Helios(TM) II
condenses all required EDGE RF functionality into two compact
devices: SKY74137 RF Transceiver The SKY74137 RF transceiver is a
highly integrated device for multi-band GSM, GPRS and EDGE
applications. The receive path implements a direct down-conversion
architecture, consisting of four integrated low noise amplifiers
(LNAs), a quadrature demodulator, selectable baseband filter
bandwidths, and low-droop DC offset correction (DCOC) sequencer.
Skyworks' direct conversion receiver (DCR) architecture can be
combined with multiple basebands without requiring special
processing interfaces. The transceiver also implements Skyworks'
polar loop transmit architecture, autonomously splitting the
amplitude and phase within the device using traditional analog
in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) signals. SKY77331 PA Module The
SKY77331 PA module (PAM) is designed in a compact form factor with
integrated coupler for quad-band GSM, GPRS and EDGE mobile
handsets. The integrated PA control (PAC) function provides
envelope amplitude control by reducing sensitivity to input drive,
temperature, power supply and process variation, while the input
signal allows initial turn-on of the PAC circuitry to minimize
battery drain. Features include: high efficiency, integrated
coupler, wideband envelope control path, input/output matching, and
gold-plated lead-free contacts. Pricing and Availability Helios(TM)
II is sampling now and available at $6 in quantities of 10,000.
Volume production is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of
2006. Skyworks at 3GSM World Congress Skyworks will be showcasing
its Helios(TM) radio solutions and Intera(TM) front-end modules in
Hall 8, Stand AO2-1, at 3GSM World Congress, being held Feb. 13-16
in Barcelona. About Skyworks Skyworks Solutions, Inc. is an
