WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TASER International, Inc. (NASDAQ:TASRE), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert: According to news reports from the Cybercast News Service (CNSNews.com), in a report released yesterday, the Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) responded to and refuted claims made by the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California in their September report on law enforcement use of TASER(R) stun guns. The LEAA called the ACLU report "junk science (that) puts cops' lives at risk." More than 1,700 U.S. law enforcement agencies issue some version of the TASER to all of their uniformed officers. The LEAA's report notes that the ACLU's claims are based on "evidence" pulled from the Arizona Republic and that medical examiners ruled that TASER was not even a considered factor in 130 of the 144 deaths that the ACLU highlights in their 25-page report. LEAA's Executive Director Jim Fotis called the ACLU report a "hit piece on cops and TASERs." When contacted for comment, the ACLU of Northern California's spokesperson said a review of LEAA's report was needed before they could respond.
