The Keystone Center, a non-profit organization that works to insure that present and future generations approach environmental and scientific dilemmas and disagreements creatively and proactively, has presented its 2005 Leadership in Industry Award to James E. Rogers, Cinergy Corp. (NYSE:CIN) chairman, president and chief executive officer. Rogers received the award at the Keystone 12th annual awards dinner last night in Washington, D.C. He has been a leader in developing creative solutions to environmental and energy public policy issues as an industry chief executive for nearly 20 years. Under his leadership, Cinergy has been selected for the Dow Jones World Sustainability Indexes for the past two years, one of only three U.S. utility companies to receive this recognition. By using a stakeholder approach to business management, Rogers works to balance the needs of those having a stake in the company's future - customers, investors, employees, communities and the environment. Cinergy has also taken a leadership role in the debate over the global warming by committing to a voluntary program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, publishing a detailed report on the potential impact of GHG emission regulation and devoting its 2004 annual report to finding common ground on global warming. The Keystone Center's mission is to equip citizens with deliberative frameworks, democratic processes, analytical information, and critical-thinking skills to navigate tough problems and develop solutions. Through its two major programs, The Keystone Center for Science and Public Policy and the Center for Education, The Keystone Center improves decisions about long-term issues by helping thought-leaders and decision-makers effectively address technically complex, politically uncertain situations and by helping students learn and teachers teach. Cinergy Corp. has a balanced, integrated portfolio consisting of two core businesses: regulated operations and commercial businesses. Cinergy's regulated public utilities in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky serve 1.5 million electric customers and about 500,000 gas customers. In addition, its Indiana regulated company owns 7,000 megawatts of generation. Cinergy's competitive commercial businesses have 6,300 megawatts of generating capacity with a profitable balance of stable existing customer portfolios, new customer origination, marketing and trading, and industrial-site cogeneration. Cinergy's integrated businesses make it a Midwest leader in providing both low-cost generation and reliable electric and gas service.
