TULSA, Okla., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Power
Equipment Group Inc. (NYSE:GEG), a leading design, engineering and
fabrication firm providing a broad array of equipment and services
to diversified global companies engaged in the power and process
industries, today announced the appointment of John Matheson as
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, effective
March 6, 2006. Larry Edwards, Global Power Equipment Group's
chairman stated, "Given the serious operating issues that the
Company encountered during 2005, and the demanding steps required
to improve our financial performance, our Board has determined that
a division of certain management duties will allow the management
to rapidly address our operating challenges head-on. In the near-
term, Al Brousseau, Global Power Equipment Group's president and
CEO will concentrate on operating and sales issues, particularly at
the Company's Heat Recovery segment located in Minneapolis, MN. To
facilitate this effort, the Board has designated John Matheson to
assume responsibility for certain Company operations, as well as
oversight of corporate functions. John has been instrumental in
helping shape our Company's vision and streamline our operations."
Mr. Matheson joined the Company in 2001 and has held several roles
within the organization including Senior Vice President of Global
Power Equipment Group, Executive Vice President, Operations of our
Auxiliary Power segment and as the Company's general counsel and
secretary. Mr. Matheson was responsible for many of the Company's
key strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions. He
led the restructuring of our Auxiliary Power segment and the
acquisitions of Williams Industrial Services Group and Deltak Power
Equipment (China). Prior to joining the Company, he was a Senior
Attorney with The Williams Companies, an international energy and
telecommunications company, where he was responsible for mergers,
acquisitions and securities law matters. Formerly, he was a
shareholder with the law firm of Conner & Winters, P.C., in
Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was a Certified Public Accountant with Price
Waterhouse. Mr. Matheson is a graduate of the Advanced Management
Program of Harvard Business School and holds a Juris Doctorate from
Georgetown University and a degree with Highest Honors from the
University of Oklahoma School of Business. Commenting on John's
appointment, Al Brousseau, Global Power Equipment Group's president
and chief executive officer stated, "I am very pleased with John's
appointment to this new position, especially given the demands
placed on our organization to more effectively manage our
operations and capitalize on the growth opportunities that we
believe exist. Our key objective is to maximize the business
execution and financial performance, short and long- term.
Considering some of the immediate challenges and resources we
identified, this calls for some creativity and flexibility. By
delegating operating issues that do not require my time and
attention, this will allow us to be more responsive to customers,
employees, investors and other stakeholders." The Company also
announced the appointment of John McNaughton as Chief Information
Officer and Vice President of Performance, Planning and Strategy.
In this new role with the Company Mr. McNaughton will immediately
work on the Global Power management information system design and

information systems at the Heat Recovery business unit similar to
what he helped design and implement for the Auxiliary Power
business unit. Mr. McNaughton will also be responsible for
developing Global Power's long-term strategy and short-term
performance initiatives such as lean manufacturing, six sigma and
balanced scorecards. John has over 20 years experience in
operations, strategy and technology management. He has successfully
led and consulted with operations and technology organizations. His

& Young and a Principal Consultant in Price Waterhouse's
