TelstraClear, a unit of Australia's Telstra Corp. (TLS.AU) launched a 3G mobile service for its New Zealand business customers Thursday with plans to triple its devices in the market over the next three years.

The telco already provides mobile services to business customers over the CDMA network, but the new service, which rides on Vodafone Group Plc's (VOD) third-generation network, allows TelstraClear to compete with mobile providers Telecom Corp. of New Zealand (TEL.NZ), Vodafone's local unit and 2degrees.

"Mobile revenue in New Zealand has been predicted to grow by around 7% over the next four or five years and TelstraClear will be competitive and aggressive in securing its share of that," said TelstraClear's head of customer experience, John Bone, in a release.

A spokesman told Dow Jones TelstraClear was seeking to secure 100,000 devices in the post-paid market over the next three years. The company, which is dual listed in Australia and New Zealand, has around 30,000 devices in the market currently.

TelstraClear's new 3G service comes after it decided to sign its mobile network virtual operator contract with Vodafone following a decision to break with prior MNVO partner Telecom last year.
