Government Asks New Zealand Commerce Commission To Reconsider Mobile Decision
26 Abril 2010 - 6:27PM
Dow Jones News
New Zealand Communications and Technology Minister Steven Joyce
has asked the Commerce Commission to reconsider its recommendation
on mobile termination access services.
In a statement Tuesday, Joyce said he received the final report
on mobile termination access services in February, recommending the
minister accept offers put forward by Telecom Corp. of New Zealand
Ltd. (NZT, TEL.NZ) and Vodafone Group PLC's (VOD, VOD.LN) Vodafone
New Zealand in lieu of regulation.
However, in April, the Commission noted a new retail offering
launched by Vodafone in April "may be material" and could affect
the basis for the commission's recommendation. As a result, Joyce
has asked the commission to consider any relevant retail offers
since the report was sent, or that may be released before the
commission finalizes its reconsidered advice, in order to determine
the implications they have on their recommendation that he accept
the undertakings put forward by the two companies.
