Suramina Resources Inc. ("Suramina") (TSX:SAX) is pleased to announce promising
results from the first two holes of 2007/2008 summer drilling campaign at the
Los Helados project in Chile.

Los Helados is Suramina's most recent porphyry copper-gold discovery and one of
a cluster of 12 porphyry targets identified within the Company's Vicuna Project
(which includes Josemaria and Filo Del Sol) that straddles the Argentine-Chile
border between the prolific El Indio and Maricunga metallogenic belts. The
project is within a large regional copper/gold porphyry system and is located
approximately 19 kilometres south of the large Caserones copper project and 44
kilometres NNE of the El Morro/La Fortuna Metallica-Xstrata JV gold/copper
project. Please see attached map, available at the following link:

Hole DDH-LH 01 at Los Helados returned 530 m grading 0.306 g/t gold and 0.459%
copper including 73 m grading 0.599 g/t gold and 0.523% copper. The hole ends in
mineralization with the last 115 m grading 0.233 g/t gold and 0.632% copper. A
total of 1,036 m in 2 holes have been drilled to date in the 2008/2009 program.
Complete results from the two holes are listed in the tables below.

The target area is open to the east, south and north with a known area of
mineralization delineated over 1,800 square metres to date. This second phase
drill program brings the total number of metres drilled on the project to
2,679.9 m. Many of the holes end in mineralization grading greater than 0.6%
copper. Further drilling is planned on this high potential target including
deeper drilling to test the system at depth.

Suramina has entered into a definitive joint exploration agreement with Japan
Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation ("JOGMEC") pursuant to which Suramina
and JOGMEC (or its nominee) will form a joint venture company to further their
joint exploration activities in respect of the Vicuna Project properties or for
the development of any ore bodies identified, including commercial mining
operations. Suramina will have an initial 60% interest in the joint venture and
will fund its pro rata share of all expenditures.

Suramina's exploration programs are carried out under the direction and
management of J. Patricio Jones (PhD). Dr. Jones and his team discovered the
Veladero gold deposit in Argentina and was responsible for the initial
development of the Bajo de Alumbrera copper-gold project. The technical contents
of this release have been reviewed and verified by Mr. Paul K. Conibear, P.Eng.,
Director of Suramina Resources Inc., who is an appropriately qualified person as
defined by National Instrument 43-101. Quality controls include preparation and
analysis statistics performed to industry standards. Samples from Los Helados
were sent to ACME analytical labs in Mendoza Argentina and Santiago, Chile, for
analysis using conventional ICP methods with multi-acid digestion. A 50 gram
fire assay with AA (atomic absorption) finish is run on all samples for gold. A
series of blanks are routinely introduced with each batch of samples. Quality
controls include preparation and analysis statistics performed to industry
standards.

ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD

J. Patricio Jones, President and CEO
