SYDNEY (AFP)--An Australian man was among those injured in
blasts at two luxury hotels in Jakarta that killed at least six
people, his father told radio here Friday.
The man, who identified himself as Jim, told commercial radio
his son had phoned him from the Indonesian capital to say his leg
was wounded and he had lost hearing in one ear in an explosion at
the JW Marriott hotel.
His son was on his way to hospital, but apart from his leg
injury, was otherwise okay, he said.
"He was in the explosion and he was bleeding from the left leg,
although from what I can gather the injury is not serious," he told
the Fairfax radio network.
"He lost his hearing in one ear, but he thinks he will recover
from that, and he's on his way to hospital. He's OK," he added.
The foreign affairs department said it was "urgently seeking to
identify whether any Australians have been injured" in the blasts,
which tore through the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott hotels early
Friday.
The explosions rocked the area around 8 a.m. (0100 GMT) near the
site of a 2003 bombing by Islamist militants of the Marriott, which
killed 12 people.
