MADISON, Wis. Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- RMT, the leader in renewable energy development, engineering, and construction, has announced today that its employees and contractors have surpassed two hundred thousand work hours without a recordable injury (RI). The milestone took place at Basin Electric Power Cooperative's (Basin Electric) PrairieWinds 1 and Minot Wind 2 farms located in Ward County, North Dakota where RMT is the EPC contractor. "Working safely is a top priority at RMT and we have proven it can be achieved while keeping projects on budget and schedule, and maintaining high quality for our customers," said Dale Withers, RMT Executive Vice President of Construction. "Since August, RMT has constructed or installed 80 service roads, crane pads, foundations and wind turbines without a single RI at either of the Basin Electric wind farm project sites." Because of the risks involved in constructing wind farms, RMT institutes strict safety guidelines to maintain a safe construction environment at its job sites. Before beginning any construction project, the company conducts mandatory safety training, job site analyses, and requires daily safety activities to make sure staff thinks about safety before performing any work. In addition, RMT joined with the North Dakota Safety Council to develop Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 hour construction training for its employees, clients and contractors on the Basin Electric sites. "Our employees and contractors have dedicated themselves to following RMT's stringent safety guidelines, and I applaud them on their hard work," added Jan Launder, RMT Senior Safety Manager. "We are committed to ensuring a safe workplace and achieving zero injuries on the Basin Electric sites and all our project sites." Over the last three years, RMT has experienced unprecedented growth by helping clients balance complex energy and environmental issues. To date, the company's wind energy projects have generated more than 3,800 megawatts of electricity. This is enough renewable energy to power more than one million homes and annually offset the equivalent of over six million tons of carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. "As RMT's renewable energy construction business continues to grow, so does our reputation in quality and safety," said Withers. "The outstanding results achieved at our North Dakota wind farm projects sites demonstrate our commitment to providing full site-to-grid services, while maintaining the highest level of quality and safety when working on site."
