ALDA Pharmaceuticals Corp. (TSX VENTURE:APH)(OTCQB:APCSF) - 

The new, highly virulent strain of E. coli that has emerged in Europe has now
killed 22 people out of 2,400 people who are known to have been infected, one of
the highest death rates ever observed for an E. coli outbreak. The actual case
numbers could be higher since not all people will have reported being ill and
suitable diagnostic procedures are not yet available.


Genetic analysis shows that the new strain bears a 93% similarity with an E.
coli strain originally found in Africa and known to cause serious diarrhea. In
addition, through "gene swapping", the new strain of E. coli has also acquired
genetic material which results in bloody diarrhea and the possibility of fatal
kidney failure as seen with "Hamburger Disease". Broad ranging antibiotic
resistance has also been observed, making this one of the most dangerous forms
of E. coli identified at this time. The source of the pathogen has not yet been
determined but it seems that raw vegetables, contaminated by manure used as
fertilizer, are the most likely carriers.


For all "superbugs", proper hand hygiene and disinfection procedures are
recommended. ALDA's T36 Disinfex(TM) and T36(R) Disinfectant Cleaner CONCENTRATE
may be used where food is prepared if their use is followed by rinsing with
potable water. T36(R) Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer kills harmful bacteria and has
been tested against E. coli and other "superbugs".
