ALDA Pharmaceuticals Corp. (TSX VENTURE:APH)(OTCQB:APCSF) -

On May 30, 2011, the Canadian Medical Association published an article
indicating that two new "superbugs", Morganella morganii, and Providencia
rettgeri, have spontaneously emerged in patients in Ontario. Both bacteria were
found to contain the gene for New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1 ("NDM-1"), a
recently identified enzyme that confers resistance to a wide variety of
antibiotics. The gene for NMD-1 appears able to readily transfer between
different species of bacteria. Such "gene swapping" is very common among
bacteria but the transfer of the gene for NMD-1 is of particular concern to
health authorities because of the unusually broad range of antibiotic resistance
it provides. The full article can be found at www.cmaj.ca.

At this time in Canada, the organisms pose little risk outside hospital settings
as they are not transmitted through the air but can be passed from patient to
patient through hospital workers who do not properly wash their hands.

To reduce the spread of these and other resistant bacteria, health authorities
continue to recommend proper hand hygiene and disinfection procedures, using
products such as T36(R) Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer and T36 Disinfex(TM). As
previously reported by the Company both T36(R) Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer and T36
Disinfex(TM) have been subjected to 15 second tests against various "superbugs".
Copies of these reports are available on request. Because T36(R) formulations
disrupt the physical structures of infectious organisms, rather then interfering
with their metabolic pathways, the antibiotic resistance of "superbugs" confers
no protection against the Company's products.
