Ecometals Appoints Chief Operating Officer

TORONTO, ONTARIO (BERLIN: GDQ)(FRANKFURT: GDQ) is pleased to
announce the appointment of Daniel J. Major as Chief Operating
Officer.
Mr. Major brings more than 20 years of experience in the mining
industry, including field operations supervision, mine planning,
project development and mergers & acquisitions in a number of
countries worldwide.
Mr. Major comes to Ecometals from Basic Element, a large and
diversified Moscow-based conglomerate that he joined in 2003. He
was Chief Executive Officer of the resource division, responsible
for development of mining and timber assets in Russia. The division
has annual turnover in excess of US $650M and over 17,000
employees.
Prior to Basic Element, Mr. Major was a globally ranked senior
mining analyst at financial institutions that included HSBC and
Morgan Stanley. He holds a B.Eng.(Honors) from Camborne School of
Mines in Cornwall, England.

As part of his compensation package, Mr. Major has been awarded
3 million three-year options under the company's existing employee
stock option plan. The options have an exercise price of C$0.50 per
share and vest over 18 months in equal monthly instalments.
