French Market Regulator Lifts Short-Selling Ban On Financial Stocks

French stock market regulator said Monday it has lifted the ban
on short-selling of 10 stocks from French financial companies that
was imposed in August.
The ban was lifted Saturday, the stock market regulator, known
as AMF, said in a statement.
In August, the AMF had banned short-selling of BNP Paribas SA
(BNP.FR), Credit Agricole SA (ACA.FR) and Societe Generale SA
(GLE.FR)--the country's three largest listed banks--as well as
April SA (APR.FR), AXA SA (CS.FR), Credit Industriel et Commercial
SA (CC.FR), CNP Assurances (CNP.FR), Euler Hermes SA (ELE.FR),
Natixis (KN.FR) and Scor SE (SCR.FR).
The decision made the decision amid a wide selloff of banking
shares in August spurred by concerns about a looming sovereign debt
crisis in Europe.
The CAC-40 index last week reached its highest level since early
August.
