TOM Group: Chinese Internet Unit Has Dropped Google Search Service

Dow Jones News
Chinese media company TOM Group Ltd. (2383.HK) said Tuesday its
Chinese Internet unit has removed Google Inc.'s (GOOG) search
service from its portal following the expiry of a cooperation
agreement with Google.
"As a Chinese company, we adhere to rules and regulations in
China where we operate our businesses," TOM Group said in a
statement.
TOM Group, controlled by Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing, offers
only Baidu Inc.'s (BIDU) search service on its Chinese Internet
portal www.tom.com.
TOM Group declined to elaborate on why it dropped Google's
search service when contacted by Dow Jones Newswires.
The statement came after Google said Monday in the U.S. that it
was redirecting people who visited its Chinese site, Google.cn, to
an uncensored Chinese-language version of its service hosted in
Hong Kong.
