Kromek Group shares rose after the company said it got a $5.9 million contract from the U.S. government's Department of Homeland Security to help it detect and identify biological threats.

At 0726 GMT, shares were up 0.6 pence, or 14%, at 4.75 pence.

The supplier of detection technology said the contract--which was awarded under a four-year program--is for the agency's Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office covers the research and development of technologies focusing on an agent agnostic bio-detection system.

The London-listed group on Thursday said that the program starts immediately and it expects to get $874,000 during the first year base period.
