Brooktrout Delivers New Levels of Density and Interoperability on its SnowShore IP Media Server SnowShore IP Media Server Now Available in IBM eServer BladeCenter Configurations; NEBS Model, TDM Integration Also Offered SAN JOSE, Calif., VON SPRING, BOOTH 1032, March 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing and call-control products, today announced a new release of its SnowShore IP Media Server(TM) that provides increased scalability, density and interoperability. Running on IBM eServer BladeCenter, this release delivers up to 500 sessions per blade and up to 7,000 sessions in a 7U chassis. The new release is also available in a NEBS-compliant version. In addition, the new release supports an optional TDM interface, which extends IP media services to PSTN networks. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19990806/BRKTTECH ) The SnowShore IP Media Server is an open, carrier-class IP media server that delivers advanced media processing for communications applications, from basic messaging and prepaid services to conferencing and video mail. With standard network and programming interfaces SIP and VoiceXML, it provides interoperability with a broad range of third-party Application Servers in next-generation wireline, wireless and broadband networks. With the availability of these new server hardware platforms, customers can deploy systems that scale from very small to very large all on a common media server. Large-scale systems can be delivered on high-density/small footprint IBM BladeCenter servers to minimize capital and operating costs. In addition, the new release makes the SnowShore IP Media Server available on a NEBS-compliant 2U server allowing customers to deploy in high-reliability telco grade environments. "Brooktrout can deliver these new benefits because the open software-based architecture of our SnowShore IP Media Server leverages the growth in performance of the underlying server hardware. In addition, our architecture in combination with platforms like the IBM BladeCenter permits customers to take advantage of the best available computer packaging and management tools in the industry," said Peter Vescuso, Vice President of Market Development for Brooktrout Technology. "We designed the BladeCenter architecture to meet the stringent requirements of next generation network operators by delivering every capability of traditional prepackaged PSTN network elements, and to also provide operational flexibility," said Jim Pertzborn, VP of Telecommunications Industry, IBM Systems & Technology Group. "Our approach is validated by the growing number of partners like Brooktrout who are writing applications or developing solutions like the Brooktrout SnowShore IP media server for IBM eServer BladeCenter." The SnowShore IP Media Server now allows customers to bridge TDM- originated calls, with reliable SIP and RTP interoperability between the media server and media gateway as a result of the support of Brooktrout's TR2500(TM) media gateway board. Customers now have the flexibility to deploy flexible IP-based media processing resources that also connect to TDM environments. In its booth at Spring 2005 VON, Brooktrout will demonstrate an IBM eServer BladeCenter concurrently running BayPackets' Prepaid application, Ubiquity's Ringback Tone application, and the SnowShore IP Media Server. "The Brooktrout SnowShore IP Media Server provides high performance software-based media processing resources that can support BayPackets' full range of applications," said Ken Epps, President & CEO of BayPackets (http://www.baypackets.com/.) "This type of application flexibility and simplified packaging is exactly what network operators need to roll out new services and be responsive to customer demand." "This latest version of the SnowShore IP Media Server allows us to meet our growing scale requirements which is needed in messaging and popular Ringback Tone applications," said Jeff Liebl, vice president of Marketing for Ubiquity from Ubiquity (http://www.ubiquitysoftware.com/). "The combination of Ubiquity's IP-based service creation environment and the Brooktrout SnowShore IP Media provides a standards-based, reliable, scalable platform that service providers can use for rapid deployment of next generation voice and mobile services." The SnowShore IP Media Server software is available on several hardware platforms to suit individual deployment requirements: a low-profile 1U rackmount server, a NEBS-compliant 2U rackmount server, and an IBM eServer BladeCenter configuration that houses up to 14 server blades in a 7U chassis. Customers can begin service trials with a single server, then add capacity over time to support expansion or add redundancy. Brooktrout's SnowShore IP Media Server is supported by a growing list of industry-leading applications, speeding deployment of enhanced services for next-generation networks.
