ExpeData(R), a Standard Register Business, Announces Interoperability with BlackBerry

PR Newswire (US)
DAYTON, Ohio, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Standard Register's
(NYSE:SR) ExpeData(R) digital writing solution now communicates
data via BlackBerry(R) from Research in Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM;
TSX: RIM). This allows mobile workers to capture information on
paper, route it real-time using BlackBerry and receive confirmation
of the transmission, alerts and other two-way communication. The
ExpeData solution -- comprised of a digital pen, digital paper and
pen services -- allows users to capture information simply and
naturally, as it is handwritten. The software automatically
converts the writing into a digital format, verifies it and makes
it available to backend systems, such as inventory management,
patient records, CRM and mobile workforce systems, to name just a
few. As an example, mobile home healthcare nurses can assess
patients as they normally would. Using digital pen and paper is
natural and unobtrusive compared to alternative technologies. Once
the paperwork from a visit is completed and the patient's signature
is captured, the written data routes wirelessly via a Bluetooth pen
to a BlackBerry device. BlackBerry transmits the data to the
ExpeData server and the server returns a confirmation that the
transmission was successful. Exact images of the completed
documents can be retrieved, viewed and edited, all on the
BlackBerry device. "Making compelling technology simple is the
hallmark of innovation and so it is with the integration of digital
writing, BlackBerry and Gearworks' mobile workforce management
software," said Todd Krautkremer, president and CEO of Gearworks.
"This 'tour de force' solution allows field-based workers, such as
mobile healthcare workers, to achieve tremendous productivity gains
without the adoption issues typically associated with new
technology." "This kind of process improvement can revolutionize
mobile workforces," said Doug Patterson, general manager of
ExpeData. "Instead of manually dropping off paperwork to an office
for keying, scanning or faxing, data is routed automatically from
the BlackBerry device to backend systems, freeing up time for
additional patient visits and more complete patient documentation.
Additionally, all transactions are date- and time-stamped,
providing an audit trail that is essential for meeting regulatory
requirements and improving management of the process." "The
ExpeData technology is a natural complement for BlackBerry
customers who need to collect information in mobile environments,"
said Mark Guibert, vice president, Corporate Marketing at Research
In Motion. "We look forward to the opportunities ahead with
ExpeData across various markets, such as healthcare and field
service." The new solution will be showcased at HIMSS 2006 in the
RIM Booth (2053). More information is available at
