Smith, president and chief executive officer, said, "With the
exception of the Memorial Day weekend, our written business was
weaker than expected for most of the month and was down 13% in
total compared to May of last year." "Last year's June delivered
sales are a more difficult comparison than were April or May. Based
on this difference and given the current tenor of business, we
currently expect that our total delivered sales for the full second
quarter will be down by a high single digit percentage compared to
last year's quarter," Smith concluded. Havertys is a full-service
home furnishings retailer with 124 showrooms in 17 states in the
Southern and Midwestern regions providing its customers with a wide
selection of quality merchandise in middle- to upper-middle price
