Point Code Emulation(TM) Simplifies Configuration ROCHESTER, N.Y.,
July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Performance Technologies
(NASDAQ:PTIX), a leading provider of innovative network
communications solutions, today announced that Hawaiian Telcom
selected the company's SEGway(TM) X401 STP Signaling Solution with
Point Code Emulation(TM) (PCE) for their multi-switch network,
serving the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaiian Telcom elected to replace
existing legacy systems with this solution, thereby optimizing
performance and avoiding any costly reconfiguration of their
network. This upgrade has significantly enhanced Hawaiian Telcom's
signaling traffic capabilities through the introduction of ATM-HSL,
providing access that was unavailable in the former network
configuration. In addition, it allows the carrier to pass IP
traffic within their network as well as to their interconnect
partners, significantly increasing throughput capacity. Performance
Technologies' SEGway X401 STP platform featuring Point Code
Emulation enables carriers to establish a virtual private SS7
network in which all elements can be privately managed. To the
public switched telephone network (PSTN), the private SS7 network
and all nodes within it appear as a single public point code. This
capability enables seamless transition from TDM switching to next
generation softswitches, as Hawaiian Telcom evolves their network.
Mike Edl, senior vice president, Network Services at Hawaiian
Telcom, said, "Without the Performance Technologies' solution, we
would have faced a major reconfiguration of our network. This way,
we avoid costly network downtime and there is no inconvenience to
our subscribers." The SEGway STP platform serves an additional
function in Hawaiian Telcom's network, since it allows them to
directly interconnect to external networks. Now, the carrier will
have the ability to handle all queries in-network. This will afford
them greater control over their network performance, as well as
resulting in operating cost savings. Larry Hrablook, vice president
of North American sales for Performance Technologies, said, "Mahalo
to Hawaiian Telcom for their decision to include Performance
Technologies' state-of-the-art signaling solution as a strategic
part of their network. We believe it fulfills their commitment to
achieve the high standard of service that their customers expect
and deserve." Online Resources Telecommunications system architects
