Codan Radios to Provide Communications for "The Coldest Journey"
Antarctic Expedition
NEWTON, Australia, Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Codan Radio
Communications, a division of Codan Limited (ASX: CDA), announced
that its high-frequency radios have been selected for transmissions
during the first ever attempt to cross the Antarctic continent
during the polar winter. Led by Sir Ranulph
Fiennes, 'the world's greatest living explorer,' (Guinness
World Records), the expedition will begin in March 2013. Throughout the time on the traverse,
the expedition team on the ice and the ship will undertake a number
of scientific tasks to provide unique data on glaciology, marine
life, oceanography and meteorology.

Codan contributed NGT and 2110 high frequency radios for the
expedition after receiving a request from Sir Ranulph Fiennes' team and The Coldest Journey
organization in London. During the
six month traverse, the expedition team will travel 2,000 miles,
mostly in complete darkness in temperatures as low as –90 degrees
C.
"The Codan radios were selected for the expedition based upon
their robust long range communications capabilities and reputation
for reliability," said Paul
McCarter, Technology and Communications Advisor, The Coldest
Journey.
"Codan is extremely pleased to support this important and
historic expedition," said Kevin
Kane, president and executive general manager, Codan Radio
Communications Division.
"The NGT and 2110 manpacks will provide Sir Ranulph Fiennes and his team with lightweight
portability and were designed for the world's most difficult
environments such as the extreme temperatures presented by the
Antarctic region."
The expedition aims to raise USD10
million for Seeing is Believing: a global initiative
to tackle avoidable blindness in developing countries.
As well as conquering this final frontier of polar exploration,
the expedition also aims to make a decisive contribution to
understanding the effect of climate change upon the poles.
