SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu today
announces special enhancements for the FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS®
CS8000 to help organizations achieve higher efficiency and greater
availability in their backup and archive environments. The latest
version of the ETERNUS CS8000 includes an automated and integrated
backup for archive and second-tier file storage data, making it
easier to protect this information without the need for an
additional backup software. New infrastructure components extend
market-leading performance levels to more than 150 TB/h – a tenfold
lead on key competitors1 – while simultaneously reducing costs. Now
large enterprises and mid-range customers can achieve higher
overall performance with faster connections to meet their
challenging business requirements.
Based on the Fujitsu principle of providing business-centric
storage solutions, the ETERNUS CS8000 can align resources based on
business requirements, vital today to react to data growth and IT
service-level challenges. This flexible appliance allows highly
specialized solutions for backup purposes, second-tier file storage
and archive scenarios, as well as the consolidation of complex
backup and archive environments in one unified data-protection
appliance. Its scale-out architecture – robustly extending from
seven terabytes to 22.2 petabytes – helps organizations to deal
even with enormous data growth, as there is no need to buy an
additional backup storage system if the backup amount grows – just
add the required capacity or performance component to ETERNUS
CS8000.
Often, data that is stored on an archive is not part of the
backup process, leaving it unprotected. In addition to
comprehensive disaster recovery concepts, ETERNUS CS8000 now plugs
this gap by including an integrated, automated backup for the
archive and second-tier file storage data. Benefits include
increased availability levels, and protecting organizations'
archive data, against user errors for example. Compared to using
external backup software to protect archives, which can be complex
and resource-intensive to manage, the ETERNUS CS8000 integrated
solution cuts the cost and management effort while additionally
reducing capacity requirements.
To provide high-end enterprise-class functionality also to
mid-range datacenters, the entry model ETERNUS CS8200 is now
enriched with some functionalities which had been restricted to the
upper models in the past. There is now a new NAS entry model
available for archive and second-tier file storage purposes
including integrated backup.

Hans-Dieter Wysuwa, Executive Vice President, Service
Platform, Global Product Business, Fujitsu
"While in the past, archiving wasn't considered essential, today
organizations are seeing the benefit of being able to move data
from online storage into an archive. Fujitsu's enhanced ETERNUS
CS8000 provides an optimized storage system for this purpose, and
helps organizations to cut costs. Organizations can free up space
on their production storage systems, confident that their archived
data is protected and available whenever it is needed."
Availability
The new ETERNUS CS8000 has been globally available since
June 1, 2014. The new enhancements
come with a service package which is provided at no additional
charge for all ETERNUS CS8000 customers with a valid maintenance
contract.
