"It's so wild, you grow up watching these
athletes and wanting to be like them. And then being here yourself
in this moment, even after five years, you still can't believe
you're at X Games. It's so sick!" - Megan
Oldham
Recorded live on the set of the world's largest winter action
sports competition, X Games Aspen 2025, the episode features
in-depth commentary from the two decorated freeski athletes as
they prepare for a weekend of intense competitions.
"It's so wild, you grow up watching these athletes and wanting
to be like them. And then being here yourself in this moment, even
after five years, you still can't believe you're at X Games. It's
so sick!" said Oldham about the special significance of competing
at the X Games.
The podcast episode was originally recorded live on Wednesday, January 22, at a mobile studio at X
Games Aspen 2025 and streamed on the Twitch platform. Today, the
one-hour episode featuring the two freeski icons is available to

the most competitive freeski athletes on the circuit. Canada's Megan
Oldham returns to competition after missing the last edition
of Aspen, looking to expand her
impressive medal count of seven X Games medals. What does the
reigning FIS World Champion have in store for the crowd in
Colorado? Tune in to find out!
Hailing from Oslo, Norway, Birk
Ruud is a six-time X Games medalist and the reigning Olympic gold
medalist in Men's Ski Big Air. A self-proclaimed 'action man', the
thrill seeker likes to get his kicks on skateboard terrain and
fearlessly leaps from bridges in Norwegian "Death Diving"
competitions. Hear what makes the two innovative freeskiers tick
and get their insights on the eve of Winter X Games 2025 – only on
UNLEASHED!

Oldham was raised in Ontario by
supportive parents who permitted her to build an obstacle park
alongside her brother outside their parents' garage. "I grew up
skiing with my family when I was five, but it was just like going
on ski trips. I was super into gymnastics and figure skating and
obviously learned a lot about air awareness and how to flip and
spin." Ultimately, her brother convinced her to try freeskiing.
Although a late bloomer (she started freeskiing at age 15), Oldham
received a Sarah Burke Scholarship to Momentum Ski Camps in
Whistler at age 17. That year, she wrote a lofty goal in her
journal: "Be the first woman to land a triple cork."
That dream became a reality in 2023 when she won double gold in
Slopestyle and Big Air at Aspen
and put down the trick as a world's first in the competition. "That
was the first one I ever landed on snow! I think I needed a bit of
the X Games atmosphere to get into the right headspace to be able
to do it," said Oldham on UNLEASHED. "I start to question why I
ever did it because it's absolutely terrifying!"
Raised in Norway, Ruud also
practiced on homemade obstacles in his grandparent's yard and cut
his teeth on his course. Speaking on his formative years, Ruud
said: "I did one year of Alpine skiing with my friends. I didn't
like it at all. But I would see a group of people doing backflips
and straight got my first pair of twin tips at age eight." Ruud
started competing at age nine and showed talent beyond his years:
"I wanted to hit the big jump where the big boys were!"
In 2022, Ruud won gold in Men's Big Air at the Beijing Games and now owns six X Games medals,
including three gold. But he gets his kicks across the board: Asked
about his passion for jumping off tall bridges into the water in
so-called "Death Diving" competitions in his home country, Ruud
offered: "Freeskiing is sketchier! Death Diving depends on how high
you go."
Speaking on his special relationship with X Games, Ruud said:
"It's always really special. I guess for everyone, it's their
childhood dream. You see it on YouTube; that's where you see all
the crazy stuff go down. To be here now and have a spot, and to be
one of those you were looking up to, is very cool."
