Elan today announced the resignation of Mr David Bethune as a non-executive
director of the Company.  Mr Bethune had been a director of the Company since
6 July, 1995 and has resigned following his appointment as Chief Executive of
Ivax Corporation, a pharmaceutical company based in Florida, US.  Mr Donal
Geaney, Chairman of Elan stated that "we wish David every best wish in his new
challenging position.  We will miss his advice and insight into our industry".
