Grafton Group plc ("the Company") has been informed on 20 August 1999 by Bank
of Ireland Asset Management of 26 Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin 2, that it had a
notifiable interest in 1,896,847 ordinary shares in the company representing
10.98% of the issued share capital of that class.  The shares are registered
in the name of Bank of Ireland Nominees Ltd, as registered owner only, on
behalf of a range of clients who are each the beneficial owner of a portion of
the shareholding.
