Intec wins key interconnect billing and mediation deal
with Telikom Papua New Guinea
* Revenue-generating solution will help national carrier maximise
income and develop new services
London - July 15th, 2003 - Intec Telecom Systems, a global leader in Operations
Support Systems (OSS), has won another national operator for its market-leading
OSS technology. Intec has signed an interconnect billing and mediation software
and services deal with Telikom Papua New Guinea. Intec will install and
implement both InterconnecTTM and InterconnecTTM PREP (pre-processor) to allow
Telikom PNG to effectively bill both national and international interconnect
partners for calls carried on its network.
Based in Port Moresby, the capital city, Telikom Papua New Guinea is the
country's national operator, offering fixed, mobile and Internet services.
Telikom PNG will use Intec's software to replace a legacy solution that no
longer offers the capabilities the company will require in a more competitive
market. Telikom PNG needs to interconnect with a new mobile company which,
although owned by Telikom, is a separate profit centre in its own right. Telikom
PNG also needs to replace very basic interconnection billing systems with a more
capable system that allows it to efficiently and accurately bill its offshore
partners. International interconnect revenues are a very important source of
export income for smaller nations, as they typically terminate many more calls
than they originate.
"We are delighted to welcome Telikom to Intec's growing presence in Asia Pacific
," said Intec Regional Director, John Rocca. "Papua New Guinea is a country
where phone coverage is limited by geography and economic factors, so we hope
that InterconnecT will help this customer to maximise its income and develop its
services further."
Intec partnered with a local hardware and IT services reseller, Datec, the
country's number one IT company, to win this deal. Telikom PNG says it will look
to Intec to provide guidance and expertise in implementing the system:
"We are aware that Intec is the clear leader in this area and has a very strong
presence in Asia Pacific," said Vic Baran, project manager at Telikom PNG. "This
is a critical investment for us, so we wanted to work with a strong and
reputable company that will be around to help and support us in future."
Some of the initial implementation work will be done in Intec's Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia-based Centre of Excellence, with the customer present to provide input
and sign off during the requirements gathering phase. Telikom PNG will also have
the reassurance of Intec's office in near neighbour Australia, which has
significant expertise in mediation-based pre-processing of CDRs. InterconnecT
PREP will pre-process CDRs from Telikom PNG's Alcatel switches and can be
configured to poll new network elements as required in the future.
