Appointment of ex SITA-Equant MD as Non-Executive Director
Vanco, the global virtual network operator, has today announced the imminent
appointment of Jean-Pierre Gaudard as a non-executive director of the Company.
Gaudard will take up his new role on 1st September 2003. He joins Vanco
following a diverse career within SITA, including a period as managing director
of SITA-Equant.
Gaudard will be drawing on his 30 years' experience at SITA and his role as
managing director, a position he assumed in 1997, to help Vanco solidify its
position as a leading provider of global data network solutions. As MD of
SITA-Equant, Gaudard was responsible for overseeing and driving all aspects of
network activity including engineering, operations, information systems,
regulatory, finance and cost sharing. He was also instrumental in accelerating
the development of Equant and increasing cost efficiency for SITA.
Allen Timpany, CEO, Vanco, said of Gaudard's appointment: "Jean-Pierre was a
major player in SITA -Equant's history and we're proud that he's agreed to join
Vanco's board. He was responsible for some considerable achievements at
SITA-Equant and we look forward to his contribution in positioning Vanco as a
leading global network service provider that is renowned for superior customer
service."
Jean-Pierre Gaudard commented "Vanco is a company with tremendous potential -
the VNO model pioneered by Allen and the team is still highly original. It
eliminates many of the limitations of a conventional asset based carrier and
enables Vanco to focus solely on what's important to end users and that is
adding value through service. The telecoms industry has reached a point where
that is the defining point in a network operator's life and I hope to put my
past industry experience to use and help move Vanco forward to become the global
brand it so richly deserves."
Gaudard joined SITA in 1972 and was active in the field of services development
for several years, participating in the launch of SITA's first transactional
services and subsequently technical planning. In 1983 he was appointed General
Manager of the Middle East Region, a position which he held for 4 years, during
which time the region was expanded to also cover North Africa. In 1987, he was
appointed Vice President Marketing and was the driving force in setting up
SITA's marketing organisation and promoting SITA's services worldwide.
From 1990 to 1996 Gaudard took on the role of Vice President Engineering. These
were critical years for the development of SITA's network during which Gaudard's
experience and expertise were key drivers in evolving the network to meet future
requirements and an increasingly diversified customer base. He was also
responsible for a major step forwards for SITA, which was the introduction and
deployment of the Mega Transport Network (MTN) enabling the development of
high-speed, voice and internet based services.
As well as holding a directorship position at Sita-Equant Limited, until July
2001, Jean-Pierre also held the position of Non-Executive Director at Maiaah SA,
until it was sold in 2002, and is a board member of Infosky Limited.
There are no further disclosures to be made under Rule 6.F.2(b) to (g) of the
Listing Rules.
