TRADING STATEMENT

ZCI is currently finalising its results for the six months ended 30 June 2004,
which should be released on or about 8 September 2004. In this regard,
shareholders are advised that In terms of the Listings Requirements of the JSE
Securities Exchange South Africa, a listed company is required to publish a
trading statement as soon as it becomes aware that the financial results for the
next period to be reported on will be materially different from those of the
previous corresponding period. ZCI is expecting an increase in headline earnings
per share  of between 330% and 340% in headline earnings per share for the 6
months ended 30 June 2004 as compared with to the corresponding period last
year. This increase is , due to favourable trading conditions and the improved
copper price in particular.

The forecast financial information on which this trading statement is based has
has not been reviewed nor reported upon by the company's auditors.

The  release  of the final announcement of results for the six months  ended  30
June 2004 is expected to be published on or about 8 September 2004.
