              Annual General Meeting Statement on Current Trading

At the Annual General Meeting held today (23 July 2003), Bob Gilbert, Chairman
told shareholders:

"Over the first three months of this new financial year, we have benefited from
the geographical diversity of our business with overseas and contract markets
making up for a slightly reduced level of activity in the UK residential sector.

Australia

The anticipated slow-down in the Australian economy that I spoke of in my
Chairman's Statement last month has so far been slight and I am pleased to
advise you that our sales are running in line with those of last year.

UK and Ireland

The overall level of activity on the UK High Street in recent weeks has been
lower than normal in what is anyway a quieter time of the year for the floor
covering industry. Correspondingly, we have seen a slight reduction in UK
residential sales compared to the first quarter of last year. However, I believe
that our business continues to perform well in relation to the industry as a
whole.

Likewise the residential market in Ireland has also been relatively quiet and
our trading there has reflected that.

Positively, however, our Contract business has remained strong, and we have a
good order book for our UK manufactured product in the US, Europe, and Middle
East.

I therefore reaffirm the statement I made in my Chairman's Statement last month
that I look forward with confidence to achieving further progress in the year
ahead.
