ADRs Gain Overall Monday; AstraZeneca's ADRs Weaken After Vaccine News

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts
gained 0.9% Monday to 148.89. The European index closed at 121.61,
0.7% higher. The emerging-markets and the Asian indices rose 1.2%
and 1.1%, respectively, closing at 392.17 and 221.5. The index for
Latin American ADRs increased 1.6% to 392.17.
AstraZeneca PLC's American depositary receipts ended down 1.1%.
AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford said Monday their Covid-19
vaccine was effective as much as 90% of the time in preventing
infections without major side effects. Moderna Inc. has also
developed a vaccine, as have Pfizer Inc. and Germany's BioNTech SE,
while China and Russia have deployed their own vaccines to combat
Covid-19.
ADRs for gold producers fell in tandem with lower prices for the
precious metal on Monday. Gold Fields Ltd. receipts were off almost
5% to $9.17 while Harmony Gold Mining Co.'s dropped 7.3% to $4.32.
AngloGold Ashanti Ltd.'s ADR fell 4.7% to $21.51.
