Anglo American PLC said Tuesday that Alison Atkinson has been appointed group director Projects & Development, a new role within the company, and that this will be effective during the second quarter of 2023.

The FTSE 100 diversified mining company said Ms. Atkinson is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Atomic Weapons Establishment, a U.K. government body in charge of developing and maintaining essential elements of the country's nuclear deterrent.

The company said this new role was central to it reaching its Sustainable Mining Plan climate targets and ambitions.
