Marconi Introduces ViPr Virtual Presence System to China With New User Interface in Chinese Using advanced SIP technology, ViPr integrates with Marconi's SoftSwitch to provide Chinese operators with comprehensive voice, video and data solution PITTSBURGH, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Marconi Corporation plc (LONDON: MONI) (NASDAQ:MRCIY) today announced the introduction into China of its ViPr(TM) Virtual Presence System, an easy-to-use, high-resolution video telephony and multimedia communications platform. Marconi's introduction of a leading new communications platform to China includes the addition of a Chinese language option to ViPr's intuitive graphical user interface. With a simple software upgrade, all of ViPr's touch-screen options, calling screens and contact lists are now available in Chinese. ViPr, which now supports IPv6, smoothly transports DVD-quality voice and video over high-speed encrypted networks to guarantee security. Therefore, ViPr is ideally suited to government, defense, corporate and educational environments. Hundreds of units have already been deployed successfully in the United States and Europe. Developed with Marconi's telephony expertise and careful attention to simple graphical interfaces, ViPr integrates voice, video, and data with a Voice over IP (VoIP) architecture based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) technology, a transport layer that is suitable for integrated voice and data applications. The ViPr terminal's easy-to-use touch-screen interface allows simultaneous viewing of live video feeds while in a conference, and is fully capable of interworking with PC's for data collaboration. The ViPr allows each user to access and change their own call handling settings via touch screen, and they can access their messages by using the phone keypad to dial their telephone voice mailboxes. Since ViPr is based on SIP, it easily integrates with Marconi's SoftSwitch platform, recently enhanced to support SIP and provide advanced communication applications across the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The introduction of SIP into a carrier-class environment opens the door to new services over a converged voice and data network. Marconi's SoftSwitch will enable this by promoting the highest level of interoperability between SIP, PSTN and MGCP/H248/H323 environments, maximizing the number of applications that service providers can deliver to a wide customer base.
