Oracle Applications Deliver Greater Visibility and Streamline
Administrative Processes REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec. 11
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The International Labour Office (ILO),
with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland has implemented the
Oracle(R) E-Business Suite to better enable it to deliver greater
transparency and administrative coherence across its worldwide
network of offices, Oracle today announced. The ILO, a specialized
UN agency, decided to implement the software as part of an
office-wide business initiative called the Integrated Resource
Information System (IRIS). (Logo:

Project went live at headquarters in April of 2005 with 1500 users.
IRIS was designed in line with the specific requirements of the UN
Common System, which sets the standard for a number of practices
including employee entitlements and compensation, travel rules and
calculations and performance management. The implementation
included Oracle Financial Management, Oracle Payroll, Oracle
Advanced Benefits, Oracle iProcurement, Oracle Purchasing, Oracle
Projects, Oracle Labor Distribution, Oracle iExpenses and Oracle
Human Resources Management System. Oracle collaborated with the ILO
to develop an UN-centric travel application, international payroll
and a tool for loading UN salary and benefit scales -- all fully
integrated with the Oracle E-Business Suite. Other Oracle tools and
technologies were used to deliver additional customized
functionalities such as the Strategic Management (SM) application.
The SM application promotes real-time collaboration throughout the
ILO. It is designed to assist management in planning, managing,
monitoring and reporting against output-based activities that have
been defined within a strategic framework. One of the immediate
benefits of implementing the Oracle E-Business Suite at the ILO is
that the software is fully compliant with the International Public
Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS). IPSAS was recently adopted by
the United Nations and the implementation of IPSAS across all of
its agencies is being overseen by the UN Task Force on Accounting
Standards. The April 2006 IRIS Newsletter, which marked the first
anniversary of IRIS "'go-live," included the following statement
from Mr. Juan Somavia, Director- General of the ILO: "Our decision
to implement IRIS has given the ILO a state-of-the-art integrated
system that is bearing fruit. We are seeing improved information
quality and availability, clearer methodologies and tools for
financial control, reduction of data replication, empowerment of
staff and the provision for enhanced skills development within the
ILO. In addition, we now have a system that can accommodate the
future growth of the ILO. This maximizes the system's life and also
reduces future support risks. Looking ahead, I see IRIS as key to
improving and facilitating our daily work while achieving long-term
efficiencies within the ILO." Sonny Singh, Senior Vice President
Oracle Industry Business Unit said: "We are delighted to have been
chosen for such an important change within such a prestigious
global organization. We have provided new functionality in the
standard solution to meet the ILO's specific requirements, which
include complex employee benefits and the ability to manage changes
in employee status and assignments retroactively. Strong financial
controls and donor fund management are standard features of the
Oracle E-Business Suite that will find resonance with many other
public-sector organizations." About the International Labour Office
