$1 Million Worth of School Supplies According to the National
Education Association, each year teachers spend as much as $4
billion of their own money on school supplies for their classrooms
- that's an average of $1,200 per teacher. In an effort to assist
America's teachers and call attention to this appalling issue, on
October 2 OfficeMax, along with its partner, Adopt-a-Classroom,
will surprise 1,000 teachers in 1,000 classrooms across the nation
with more than $1 million worth of donated classroom supplies
calling the day A Day Made Better. According to Adopt-A-Classroom
teachers really need help! Fifty percent (50%) of teachers leave
the profession within the first five years and each time a teacher
leaves the education system, the cost is approximately $11,500 for
recruiting, hiring, and providing orientation and professional
development for the replacement. For more information on "A Day
Made Better" and how you can contribute visit
