                      APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS

Highland Gold Mining Limited, the AIM traded Russian gold mining group,
announces the appointment of Mr Dmitri Korobov and Mr Gennady Nevidomi, as
Executive Directors of the Company, with effect from the 22 May 2003.

Peter Daresbury, Chairman of Highland Gold, said:

"I am delighted to welcome Dmitri and Gennady onto the Board.  They bring a vast
amount of knowledge and expertise in gold mining in far Eastern Russia and they
both played an important role in the preparations for the acquisition of the
Company's portfolio of gold mining projects and Highland Gold's admission to
AIM.  They continue to make a significant contribution to the commercial and
technical requirements of the group in Russia.

"The Board of Highland Gold demonstrates a balance of the industrial, country
specific and capital markets expertise that is required to fulfil our strategic
goals of acquisitions, development and consolidation within the Russian gold
mining sector."

Dmitri Korobov (Aged 31) - General Director, OOO Russdragmet (RDM)

Dmitri Korobov graduated as a mechanical engineer from the Department of
Materials and Technology at Moscow State Technical University, Bauman.  He
became deputy general director of ZAO Oil Finance in 1997 and then a director of
ZAO MNV in 1998. Since that timehe has been instrumental in the development of
ZAO MNV and is now responsible for RDM, the company which manages the group's
Russian operations in Moscow.

Gennady  Nevidomi (Aged 31) - Production Director, OOO Russdragmet (RDM)

Gennady Nevidomi graduated as a mechanical engineer from the Department of
Materials and Technology at Moscow State Technical University, Bauman.  He was
head of the analytical department of ZAO Oil Finance from 1997 until 2000 when
he was appointed head of the Moscow office of ZAO MNV.  In 2003, he was
appointed a Director of RDM and is responsible for planning and production at
the Company's mining operations.
