                                Pre-close update

AEA Technology plc (AEA) today issues a pre-close update in advance of its
Interim Results for the period to 30 September 2003 which are due to be released
on 4 December 2003.

Results for the period are in line with expectations. The core businesses of
Rail and Environment have continued to make steady progress. Overall, the
development businesses have continued to improve and, following the management
action taken at Accentus earlier in the year, the business is trading close to
breakeven. The outlook for AEA in the second half of the year remains
satisfactory.
