                          Pre close trading statement


Datamonitor plc today issues a trading update in advance of its preliminary
results announcement for the year ended 31st December 2003.

Datamonitor continues to make progress. Fourth quarter sales have been strong
and are ahead of our expectations at the beginning of October 2003, when the
last trading update was issued. Sales, revenue, deferred revenue (our forward
sales), profit before tax and cash balances are all likely to be well ahead of
market forecasts for the year ended 31st December 2003.
