                  PRE-CLOSE TRADING UPDATE & NOTICE OF RESULTS

Chieftain Group plc ("Chieftain" or the "Group"), the industrial and engineering 
support services group, today provides an update on trading prior to the release 
of its results for the year ended 31 December 2007.  These results will be 
announced on 18 March 2008.

As reported on 16 November 2007, Chieftain's marine and engineering businesses 
enjoyed strong trading conditions in 2007 and these continued to the year end.  
The year finished in line with those revised management expectations.

Recent contract awards

Marine Outfitting
The Board is particularly pleased to report that, during this period, the Group 
was advised by BAE Systems Submarine Solutions of its intention to extend its 
existing alliance contract to include Astute Boat 4.  This extension underpins 
the Group's core Marine Outfitting through to 2013.  This is a competitive 
market, but the Group is well positioned for further opportunities in the
defence  and oil and gas sectors.

Engineering
Chieftain has worked successfully for several years with clients in the 
Norwegian oil and gas recovery sector and is now established in an engineering 
cluster extending the marketing of its services throughout Scandinavia.  As a 
result of this effort, Chieftain has recently secured significant fabrication 
orders which will underpin the utilisation of the Group's fabrication workshops 
in 2008.

In addition, the Group has won a further engineering services term contract from
a new United Kingdom client.

As a result of these and other contracts won, Chieftain finished 2007 with its 
strongest ever order book at around �65 million.

through its core areas of business.  Chieftain is fighting fit and we continue 
to view 2008 with confidence."
