Analog Devices has invested more than $1 billion in expanding its semiconductor factory in Beaverton, Ore.

The chip maker said Wednesday that the Beaverton site is its largest wafer fabrication facility by volume. The expansion brings its cleanroom space to about 118,000 square-feet and nearly doubles internal manufacturing of products that run on the 180-nanometer technology node or higher.

The investment is also expected to create hundreds of new, long-term employment opportunities.

More than 10% of the investment will be used to increase overall efficiency and implement more environmentally friendly chemistries, Analog Devices said. The facility aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 75% and water usage per production unit by about 50%.
