Visa Inc. on Wednesday said it will open a new office in Atlanta as part of an expansion expected to bring about 1,000 jobs to the region.

The San Francisco payment-services giant said the new office will represent a range of teams and functions, with a particular concentration of technology and client-services teams.

Cousins Properties Inc., an Atlanta real-estate investment trust, said Visa has signed a long-term lease for roughly 123,000 square feet at 1200 Peachtree St., a 370,000-square-foot office building in midtown Atlanta.

Visa said several global and regional company leaders will relocate to Atlanta to support its employee base, which it expects to grow to about 1,000 employees over the next few years.

Cousins said it expects Visa's initial occupancy during the fourth quarter of 2022.
