Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) and Kabelvision, part of PT Broadband Multimedia Tbk of Indonesia, announced today that Kabelvision will deploy Corning's access-optimized NexCor(TM) single-mode fiber in the latest expansion of its hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network. PT Communication Cable Systems Indonesia will provide the cable for this project. Kabelvision, a leading Indonesian cable TV (CATV) and data services provider and the only company in Indonesia with an existing HFC network, is rapidly expanding that network, which currently passes 220,000 homes in the Jakarta metropolitan area, as well as in Bali, Surabaya and several small resort areas. Their latest expansion, which includes Corning NexCor fiber, will serve Jakarta City and the outlying suburbs, passing another 120,000 homes by 2006. NexCor fiber has been engineered with industry-leading attributes that address the unique needs of access networks, all while maintaining total backward compatibility with legacy single-mode fibers. The result is a fully ITU-T G.652.D-compliant fiber that delivers additional value for CATV and fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) networks compared with earlier single-mode fibers.
