that we track, 12 of them have moved into positive territory with
an average return of 0.495. Asian markets finished the day mixed as
exporter stocks were able to advance on the weaker yen. This
nullified a decline in chipmakers that was kicked off by a
downgrade of Advantest Corp. by J.P. Morgan. Electronics firm,
Sanyo Electric, also widened its loss estimate for the year,
stating that it will accelerate job cuts and close some domestic
plants. The German DAX 30 and the French CAC 40 have both been able
to advance, thanks to Greenspan's comments and DCX's reported job
cuts. Durable goods data will be released today. According to
MarketWatch and its survey, economists expect durable goods orders
to mark a rise of 0.9 percent in August following a drop of 4.9
percent in July. We will also be presented with our weekly crude
inventory updates. Analysts are mixed in their estimates, but do
agree that we will see a decrease in inventory when the Energy
Department releases its data. Get Free Stock Picks from Bernie

OPPORTUNITIES "Fixing roads in New Orleans will probably cost at
least US$2 million per mile." That's according to the September 5
edition of Barron's. With roadwork a top priority and plans being
set to begin the repairs, one of the most powerful investments
could be to bet on highway contractor stocks. That means companies
like Caterpillar should continue their recent uptrend for months to
come. At US$2 million per mile, the 40 miles of devastated Highway
90 in Louisiana alone could cost US$80 million. Based on early
estimates, hurricane-related roadwork will cost at least US$1
billion -- with some experts forecasting costs higher than US$2
billion. In addition, President Bush's signing of the
Transportation Bill in August 2005, which guarantees at least
US$227.6 billion for road construction between now and 2009, will
also impact most favorably on construction companies. This bill
marks a 31% spending increase from the previous five years. But,
most likely, Mr. Bush had no idea how quickly this new funding
would come into play. But while many continue to talk about damage
done to infrastructure -- houses, utilities, communications, roads,
etc. -- there are other sectors struggling in the post- storm
fallout. Not least of these is agriculture, which is forecast to
lose US$900 million, according to US Agriculture Secretary Mike
Johanns. Losses from a severe drought in the Midwest that has
crippled corn and soybean production have already hit US$1.3
billion. Read more analysis from the 247Profits Group every trading
