MIDLAND, Mich., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dow Corning Corporation has elected three new members to its Board of Directors, increasing the membership to include four executives from each of its two shareholders, The Dow Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated. The board elected Laurence D. McRae, senior vice president - strategy and corporate development, of Corning, Geoffery E. Merszei, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and Gary R. Veurink, corporate vice president - manufacturing and engineering, both from Dow. "This is an exciting and challenging time for the company as we focus on innovation, sustainability and global expansion," said Stephanie A. Burns, Ph.D, Dow Corning president and CEO. "We're looking forward to working closely with our newest board members and learning from their diverse experiences and knowledge." Retiring from the board is Arnold A. Allemang, a senior advisor for Dow, who has served as a Dow Corning director for more than four years. "Arnold's deep understanding of global manufacturing has been especially valuable," said Gary E. Anderson, Dow Corning board chairman. "His insights have provided a firm foundation for the growth and sustainability of this company." Brief bios: Laurence D. McRae, senior vice president - strategy and corporate development, Corning Incorporated McRae joined Corning in 1985 and subsequently served in various financial, sales, and marketing positions including business director and president of Revere Ware Corporation, a unit of Corning Consumer Products Company. He was also vice president of Corning Consumer Products Company, division vice president of Corning's Global Development - Telecommunication Products Division, and vice president of Corporate Development. McRae holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Morgan State University and a master's degree from Harvard University. Geoffery E. Merszei, executive vice president and chief financial officer, The Dow Chemical Company Merszei returned to Dow in July this year after serving four years as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Alcan Inc. Prior to moving to Alcan, his career with Dow had spanned 24 years. He joined the Company in 1977 and subsequently worked in a variety of treasury and finance- related positions around the globe, including five years as vice president and treasurer. Merszei is a member of the Conference Board Committee of the Council of Financial Executives and a member of the Corporate Executive Board Working Council for CFOs. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Albion College in Michigan. Gary R. Veurink, corporate vice president - manufacturing and engineering, The Dow Chemical Company Veurink was named to his current position in January 2004 and later that year joined the Office of the Chief Executive. Prior to his current role, Veurink was the Manufacturing and Engineering vice president for Chemicals and Intermediates, and before that served as the business operations leader for Performance Chemicals, as well as vice president and site leader for Dow's Michigan Operations.
