Dow Corning Chairman of Board Anderson Retires; President and CEO Burns Elected Chair

MIDLAND, Mich., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Dow Corning
Board of Directors elected Stephanie A. Burns, president and chief
executive officer, to the position of chairman at its quarterly
meeting held yesterday, December 12, 2005. Burns will replace Gary
E. Anderson, who announced his retirement after serving as board
chairman since 2001. Both changes are effective January 1, 2006.
Burns will continue to serve as Dow Corning CEO, a post she assumed
after Anderson's retirement from active service with the company in
July 2004. "Gary's unwavering dedication to the success of Dow
Corning, our customers, and our employees has inspired everyone,"
said Burns. "His emphasis on integrity and innovation has shaped
Dow Corning's culture globally. Going forward, I'm excited about
the opportunities for the board to continue guiding Dow Corning on
its path of sustained innovation and success." Anderson retires
after a 38-year career with Dow Corning. "It was invigorating to

bright and in good hands." About Stephanie A. Burns, Ph.D. Burns
joined Dow Corning in 1983 as a researcher. Four years later, she
became product development manager for the Electronics Industry,
where she led advances in ultraviolet curable coatings and
materials for device protection and electronics adhesives. She
became director of Women's Health in 1994. In 1997, Burns was named
Science and Technology director for Europe. In 1999, she became
industry director for Life Sciences in Europe, and later became
European Electronics industry director. In December 2000, Burns was
named executive vice president and elected to Dow Corning's Board
of Directors. In February 2003 she was named president and chief
operating officer. In January of 2004 she was named CEO. Burns
holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, with an organosilicon
specialty, from Iowa State University. She has completed
post-doctoral studies at the University of Languedoc-Rousillon in
France. About Gary E. Anderson Anderson joined Dow Corning in 1967
and spent the early years of his career in manufacturing roles,
moving into economic evaluation and business management positions
in the mid-1970s. In 1979, he became director of Manufacturing and
Engineering for Europe. From 1983 to 1984, he took a leave of
absence from Dow Corning to serve as acting deputy assistant
secretary for Basic Industries for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
After he returned to Dow Corning, he held a variety of management
and director positions, becoming a corporate director in 1992,
president in 1994 and CEO in 1999. Anderson earned a bachelor's
degree in chemical engineering from Michigan Technological
University (MTU) in 1967 and an MBA in finance from Central
Michigan University in 1973. In May 2003, Gary was awarded an
honorary doctor of engineering degree from MTU in recognition of
his career accomplishments and service to MTU. He has been a member
of the President's Advisory Board and a Trustee of MTU's
