Global leader in silicon-based technology named to list for first
time MIDLAND, Mich., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FORTUNE
magazine named Dow Corning Corporation to its list of the "100 Best
Companies to Work For." This is the first year Dow Corning, which
ranked number 55, has been named to FORTUNE's annual list. "Women
excel at this specialty-chemical company, holding 45 percent of top
executive slots and 26 percent of managerial positions," FORTUNE
magazine's editors wrote. FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work
For" list was released today on http://www.fortune.com/, and will
appear in the January 22 issue of the magazine. "It is an honor to
be recognized for offering our team a great place to work," said
Stephanie A. Burns, chairman, president and CEO of Dow Corning. "We
know our employees are the source of our ideas, actions and
performance. A healthy company begins and ends with healthy, happy
employees, who want to come to work, do their best, deliver
results, and contribute to the overall success of Dow Corning and
our customers." In addition to comprehensive bonus, profit sharing,
pension and retirement plans, Dow Corning benefits around the world
range from flextime, compressed workweeks, paid vacation, paternity
and adoption leaves, to onsite fitness centers and fitness
subsidies, retiree medical coverage, tuition reimbursement, and
access to expert advice on virtually any life issue such as legal,
education, child care, and financial matters. "Supporting our
employees and the passion they have for their jobs and for this
company is important to our success," said Derek A. O'Malley-Keyes,
Dow Corning vice president and chief human resources officer. "We
listen to our employees and do our best to give them the tools and
resources they need to effectively manage work and life, advance in
their careers, and volunteer in their communities." The "100 Best
Companies to Work For" list is compiled for FORTUNE based on two
criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each
company, and the opinions of the company's employees. The latter is
given more weight; two- thirds of the total score comes from
employee responses to a survey of 400 randomly selected employees
from each company. The survey inquires about attitudes towards
management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the
organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an
evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, pay and benefits
programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas:
credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities,
benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and
pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations). Companies that are
at least seven years old and have at least 1,000 employees are
eligible for the list. About Dow Corning Dow Corning
