Two high-level executives at Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), each
having provided more than three decades of service, will retire
this spring, the company announced today. Larry Aiello Jr.,
president and chief executive officer of Corning Cable Systems, and
Robert B. Brown, executive vice president for the companys
Environmental Technologies segment, will retire effective April 1,
2008. In paying tribute to both executives, Peter F. Volanakis,
president and chief operating officer, said, Cornings businesses,
employees, and communities have all benefited immensely from the
truly outstanding contributions made by Larry Aiello and Bob Brown.
We will certainly miss their leadership, but they leave behind
strong businesses with very capable teams, ready to address the
growth opportunities in front of them. Telecommunications Aiello
joined Corning in 1973 as part of Cornings internal audit
department. He has held a variety of manufacturing, operational and
financial leadership roles and also led the companys international
operations. He has served in his current role since April, 2002,
during which time he led a remarkable turnaround of Corning Cable
Systems, one of the companys most significant businesses. Under
Aiellos leadership, the company has advanced to a strong position
as a global product innovation leader in the telecommunication
industrys growing fiber-to-the-premises market. Succeeding Aiello
as president and CEO of Corning Cable Systems will be Clark S.
Kinlin, currently chief operating officer for that business. In his
more than 25 years of experience with Corning, Kinlin has held
leadership roles in a variety of global organizations, including
Telecommunications, Consumer Products and Corning International.
From 2003 to 2007, he served as general manager, Corning China
during which time he led the significant growth of Cornings
businesses in China. Environmental Technologies Brown joined
Corning in 1972 and served in a wide range of management positions
in manufacturing and engineering, spanning the Telecommunications
and Environmental Technologies segments. He was a key leader in
Cornings photonics business and became vice president and general
manager of Corning Optical Fiber in 2002. Providing strong
direction during a critical time period in the companys history,
Brown effectively restructured the optical fiber business and led
its return to profitability. He was named senior vice president and
general manager of Environmental Technologies in early 2005, and
was promoted to executive vice president later that year. Under
Browns guidance, both the automotive and diesel businesses within
Environmental Technologies have flourished. Succeeding Brown will
be Thomas R. Hinman, appointed senior vice president, Environmental
Technologies. Hinman has led the companys diesel technologies
business since 2002 and was named senior vice president and general
manager in 2006. He joined Corning in 1983, serving a variety of
management positions in the companys environmental products
business and as general manager for Corning Microarray
Technologies. Curt Weinstein, currently director, Heavy Duty
Diesel, Diesel Technologies, will be appointed vice president and
general manager, Heavy Duty Diesel Technologies, reporting to
Hinman. In this most recent role, Weinstein has been responsible
for global sales, marketing, and engineering for heavy duty diesel
applications. His more than 15 years of experience prior to that
included various sales, marketing, and product line management
roles in both Optical Fiber and Photonic Technologies. Thomas
Appelt will also report to Hinman in his continued role as vice
president and general manager, Automotive Technologies. Appelt is
responsible for developing and executing the overall strategy for
the global automotive business, including the companys light duty
filter and substrates businesses. Since joining Corning in 1990, he
has held a variety of marketing and management leadership positions
in Cornings environmental and automotive businesses. About Corning
