Corning Incorporated and Lightwave Recognize André Kriger for Leadership in FTTH Deployments
30 Setembro 2013 - 5:30PM
CORNING, N.Y., September 30,
2013 - Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) and Lightwave have
named André Kriger the recipient of the 10th Annual FTTXcellence
Award. The award was presented today at the 2013 FTTH Conference
& Expo in Tampa, Fla.
Kriger is the FTTH director at Vivo, Telefonica
Group's local brand in Brazil. He is responsible for Vivo's
fiber-to-the-home network in the São Paulo state concession area.
He is committed to the belief that the future of Brazil will depend
on increased broadband usage and its many applications in
education, e-commerce, etc. His perseverance and project management
expertise have helped Vivo accelerate its goals for deployment and
customer attraction and satisfaction.
Launched in 2003 as a result of joining several
mobile operators, Vivo is the leading brand in Brazilian
telecommunications. In 2011, Telefonica fixed operations and Vivo
merged into a combined entity, becoming the largest telecom
operator in Brazil. Vivo's services range from fixed, broadband,
mobile voice, and data.
"I am very happy and honored to receive this award
for my contribution to the Telefonica/Vivo FTTH rollout," Kriger
said. "We have been expanding our reach and getting incredible
traction in the market, and this critical effort is revolutionizing
the telecom landscape within Brazil. I also would like to share
this award with my team who is supporting Telefonica/Vivo in this
rollout."
"Ten years ago, we recognized the individual who
was instrumental in one of the largest FTTH builds in North
America, and today we are recognizing André for his contribution to
one of the largest and most influential deployments in Latin
America," said Kim Hartwell, senior vice president and chief
commercial officer, Corning Telecommunications. "Today's
international interest in Brazil makes this initiative that much
more significant. On behalf of everyone at Corning, I congratulate
André on this honor."
"The Vivo FTTH deployment is emblematic of the
growing use of optical access networks throughout Latin America,"
added Stephen Hardy, editorial director and associate publisher of
Lightwave. "Carriers throughout the Americas are realizing that
FTTH provides the most future-proof method of meeting their
customers' demands for bandwidth today and for years to come."
To be eligible for the award, candidates must be
nominated by a peer. Nominees may include individuals at carriers
and system operators, home developers, utilities, municipalities or
other organizations that have launched an FTTX project; individuals
at vendors or research organizations whose work has benefited FTTX
technology development; public officials or others who have made a
significant positive impact in the regulatory or legal arena; and
other deserving individuals. This year's panel of judges included
representatives from Corning, Lightwave and the FTTH Council
Americas.
In addition to the awards ceremony at the FTTH
Conference, Kriger was honored with a donation in his name to US
Ignite, a non-profit, public-private partnership whose mission is
to make the U.S. the world leader in applications and services for
ultra-fast, software-defined networks. He also received a
decorative glass piece from the Corning Museum of Glass, and will
be profiled in an upcoming issue of Lightwave magazine.
